Distribution Design Engineer

*Overview* We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Distribution Design Engineer to join our dynamic team within the energy sector. This role involves designing, analyzing, and optimizing electrical distribution systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in power distribution engineering, system design, and project management, with a strong understanding of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems. The successful applicant will play a key role in developing innovative solutions that meet both technical specifications and regulatory compliance. *Responsibilities* * Develop detailed electrical distribution system designs utilizing AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other CAD software, ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA 70, NESC, and relevant electrical building codes. * Perform power system analysis, including load flow studies, short-circuit calculations, and protection coordination using MATLAB and specialized engineering tools. * Create comprehensive schematics and system diagrams for high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems supporting utility infrastructure projects. * Coordinate project scheduling activities to ensure timely completion of design phases while managing multiple concurrent projects. * Conduct engineering troubleshooting for complex power electronics circuits, high-voltage equipment, and utility electrical systems. * Implement IEEE standards for power system protection and system reliability across various projects. * Collaborate with construction teams to facilitate seamless transition from design to implementation while ensuring adherence to safety standards. * Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and detailed schematics for engineering review and approval. * Support energy sector engineering initiatives by integrating GIS data with system designs for accurate mapping and planning. * Engage in systems engineering activities related to utility electrical systems to optimize performance and reliability. *Qualifications* * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus. * Proven experience in power distribution engineering within the utility or energy sectors. * Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation; familiarity with GIS tools is advantageous. * Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, AC/DC electrical systems, and power electronics circuit design. * Experience with project scheduling tools and project management methodologies. * In-depth understanding of NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70 compliance standards, IEEE standards implementation, and NESC guidelines. * Ability to perform complex power systems analysis using MATLAB or similar software. * Knowledge of construction processes related to utility infrastructure projects. * Excellent communication skills for coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. * Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical issues effectively within large-scale systems.
