Athletic TrainerJOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 04/08/2026 CLOSING DATE: 04/21/2026 04:00 PM POSTING NUMBER: 052730 LOCATION: ORHS Ninth Grade Campus - 015 POSITION TITLE: Athletic TrainerJOB DESCRIPTION:The Campus Athletic Trainer at the high school campus will work directly with the team physician, athletic director, and principal and campus coordinator. The Campus Trainer's duties will include but not be limited to the following:DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:Prevention and care of all athletic injuries at both the junior and senior high level.Prevention and care of extra-curricular injuries to band, drill team, cheerleaders, and pep squad at both junior and senior high levels.Explanation of Sports Medicine procedures to coaches, sponsors, and parents.Establish and maintain, whenever possible, a reciprocal agreement with the trainer of the host school for medical coverage whenever your team travels.Be able to perform preventative wrapping and taping design and build individual protective or supportive equipment.Certain training procedures need to be addressed by either the male or lady trainers. These are procedures where ethical considerations are at question.Supervision of treatment and rehabilitation programs.Either the head trainer or assistant trainer is to be present at all home football games at the high school level.Travel with the varsity football team until the season is completed.Be present or assign coverage for the following varsity level sports: Invitational cross-country and track meets; Volleyball games; Basketball games; Baseball games; Soccer matches; Softball gamesAssign student trainers coverage, depending on availability for varsity and sub-varsity sports.Maintain individual files for the purpose of recording, referral forms in case of injury, physical forms, claim forms for insurance purpose, physician referral, prescription notes and message.Provide each extra-curricular coach or sponsor written verification on students' physical examination, parent permission to participate, and insurance coverage. The trainer will establish each participant's eligibility status to participate and the coach/sponsor is responsible to check that each of their participants are in fact eligible. This pertains to high school level only and the junior high school coach is responsible for compliance.Daily injury reports and treatment records.Maintain daily filing and updating of physical forms; parental consent forms, by sport by season.Maintain insurance eligibility listings and submit lists for premium coverage.Junior and senior high school extra-curricular insurance programs: Complete and file all athletic and identified extra-curricular groups insurance claims; Cross file through parent's individual insurance; Follow up on all identified claims until all carriers have paid, or processing the correct affidavit so only the school insurance pays; Be aware of all Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO's)Supervise student trainer program.Observe and assist wherever applicable, any surgery to any participant, render your supervision grades 7 through 12.Observe and assist, whenever possible, surgical classes pertaining to new techniques in Sports Medicine.Attend Sports Medicine Symposiums for state mandated continuing education units.The exercise of discretion and individual judgment.Regular attendance.Maintain confidentiality.Other duties assigned.EXPERIENCE:* An Athletic Trainer shall work under the advice and consent of a licensed physician when carrying out the practice or prevention, evaluation, emergency care, physical reconditioning and/or rehabilitation in an athletic program being conducted by an educational institution, professional athletic organization, sanctioned amateur athletic organization or comparable function for a health care organization.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:BS or BA from accredited college or universityLicensed by Texas Department of HealthPrevious experience as described by article 4512DMembership in National Athletic Training AssociationSurgery room privileges in local hospital or clinicSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Administrative skills - including but not limited to:Insurance proceduresBudget and inventory requirementsPersonnel managementKnowledge of both emergency and rehabilitation techniquesCompetency in taping, padding, and equipment fittingStress management skills dealing with coaches, parents, and participantsCONTACT INFORMATION:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress.
