Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment plans for diverse patient populations, including children, geriatrics, and individuals with complex mental health needs. This role involves working in various settings such as outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and telehealth platforms, utilizing advanced clinical skills and a broad knowledge of mental health conditions. Experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, and eClinicalWorks is essential to ensure accurate documentation and seamless patient care coordination. The PMHNP will collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver holistic mental health services.
Duties
Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments utilizing clinical research methods and physiological knowledge.
Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating psychopharmacology, including medication management and injections.
Administer specialized procedures such as botulinum toxin treatments, dermal fillers, spinal taps, and IV infusions where applicable.
Manage acute pain and facilitate complex cases involving trauma center experience or ICU background.
Provide behavioral health interventions across diverse populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, neonatal ventilator care, hospice & palliative medicine, and memory/dementia care.
Coordinate discharge planning, case management, and utilization review to optimize patient outcomes in inpatient or outpatient settings.
Utilize telehealth platforms effectively for remote patient assessments and follow-up care.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations while managing medical records using EMR/EHR systems such as Athenahealth or Cerner.
Engage in health coaching and patient education to promote wellness and adherence to treatment regimens.
Document all patient interactions accurately using CPT coding standards while ensuring infection control and aseptic techniques are followed during procedures like catheterization or specimen collection.
Qualifications
Current certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with valid licensure.
Proven experience in diverse clinical environments such as emergency medicine, hospital medicine, or behavioral health settings; experience in Level I/II trauma centers preferred.
Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques including laboratory experience and medical imaging.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with ICD-9/10 coding is highly desirable.
Experience administering injections, performing suturing, tube feeding management, ventilator care, catheter care, phlebotomy, and working with patients with developmental disabilities or complex chronic conditions such as infectious disease care or occupational health issues.
Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating excellent patient assessment skills including vital signs measurement and physical examinations.
Strong understanding of Workers' Compensation law and utilization management processes; experience in hospice & palliative medicine or post-acute care is advantageous.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations involving trauma or acute care scenarios such as ICU or neonatal ventilator management; experience with telehealth platforms is preferred.
