Product Designer / Principal Engineer (Contract) – Medical Device DevelopmentRavenswood (North Side), Chicago, IL $50–$85/hr (based on experience) Contract | On-site to start → Hybrid flexibility over timeWe are partnering with a leading third-party medical device manufacturer to support their Product Development Center located in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago. This facility serves as the hub for R&D, prototyping, and new product development, working closely with customers to bring innovative medical devices to market. Manufacturing operations are based in Buffalo Grove.We are hiring for two contract opportunities at different levels:Product Designer ($50–$70/hr)Principal Engineer ($70–$85/hr)These roles will play a critical part in advancing new and existing product designs, collaborating cross-functionally, and supporting customer-driven development initiatives.What You’ll Be DoingSupport new product development (NPD/NPI) and design enhancements for medical devicesTranslate prototyping and testing feedback into design improvementsCreate and revise engineering drawings, ensuring proper documentation and version controlCollaborate with internal teams and external customers on product requirements and design reviewsEnsure compliance with design control processes and applicable regulatory standardsContribute to a fast-paced, hands-on R&D environment focused on innovation and qualityProduct Designer Requirements3+ years of experience in product or component designStrong background in plastic part design (medical device experience preferred but not required)Proficiency in SolidWorksFamiliarity with Design Controls and structured product development environmentsExperience in regulated industries (medical device, aerospace, etc.) is a plusKnowledge of ISO 13485 is highly desirablePrincipal Engineer RequirementsExtensive experience in product development/design within the medical device industryStrong background in injection molding and designing plastic componentsProven experience leading NPD/NPI initiatives and working directly with customersAbility to present and communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholdersSolid understanding of FDA regulations and compliance requirementsDemonstrated leadership capability within engineering teamsWhy This Opportunity?Work at the forefront of medical device innovation in a dedicated R&D facilityHands-on involvement in prototyping and real product developmentHigh visibility with customers and leadershipOpportunity to contribute at both design and strategic levels
