Day Camp Counselor

Job Summary The Chilmark Community Center is hiring enthusiastic, responsible team members for our 2026 Summer Program! We are seeking Counselors (minimum age 16) and Interns to help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children ages 3.5–14. Our programs include camp, sailing, tennis, arts, STEAM, and leadership development. Ideal candidates are energetic, dependable, team-oriented, and excited to mentor young people in a dynamic community setting. This is a unique opportunity to build leadership skills, gain hands-on experience, and be part of a vibrant summer team committed to belonging, safety, and joyful learning. Seasonal positions run late June through mid-August. Counselor In Training posiions avaiable for 15 year olds Responsibilities Supervise and engage children in a variety of recreational activities including sports, arts and crafts, theater, and outdoor games, to promote physical activity and creativity. Manage group dynamics by implementing effective classroom management strategies that ensure a positive and inclusive environment for all campers. Ensure the safety of all children by adhering to established health and safety protocols; administer basic first aid when necessary. Foster social-emotional development through positive reinforcement, conflict resolution, and encouraging teamwork among campers. Collaborate with fellow staff members to plan daily schedules, set up activity stations, and maintain a clean and organized camp environment. Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding camper progress or concerns (within the scope of your role), ensuring transparency and trust. Requirements Previous experience working with children (camp, babysitting, tutoring, daycare, sports, arts, etc.) is preferred but not required. We are looking for individuals who genuinely enjoy being around kids, bring positive energy and enthusiasm, and are eager to learn and grow. Willing to take direction, participate in training, and work collaboratively as part of a supportive team. An interest in leading games, sports, arts, nature activities, or creative play is a plus — but we will help you build those skills. CPR/First Aid certification is helpful but not required prior to hire (training opportunities may be available).
