LG Chem is growing and we are searching for an Analytical Scientist to join our team in our newly opened Customer Solutions Center in Ravenna, OH. Ideal candidates will have an advanced degree in chemistry, physics, polymer science, chemical engineering, polymer engineering, etc. The incoming will work directly with internal LG Chem team members and external clients in the Automotive, Home Appliance and Consumer Product industries. This position requires experience on Polymer Microscopy (SEM/EDS) and sample preparaton (etching, microtome, etc) and is based in Ravenna, OH.
Responsibilities, Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Design and coordinate analytical experiments independently
Conduct analysis, interpret and report results
Prepare samples and standards
Set up, operate, maintain, calibrate, optimize and troubleshoot a variety of laboratory equipment
Document standard operating procedures, analysis methods, etc
Validate, update and record analytical methods
Develop new methods
Work multiple projects simultaneously with a sense of urgency
Manage laboratories including ordering lab supplies, chemicals and gases
Conduct safety activities and prepare required documents
Assist with waste disposal
Sample handling and shipping
Collaborate across TS&D, Production, EHS, R&D, etc
Suggest analytical problem-solving methods to internal/external colleagues
Participate in internal/external meetings
Mentor, train and guide less experienced colleagues in the instrumental analysis
Communicate and collaborate with HQ and other sites of LG Chem
Network with the external scientific, technical and regulatory community
Coordinate external analytical support
Minimum Qualifications/What We Need to See
Education: Master or advanced degrees in relevant fields such as chemistry, physics, polymer science, chemical engineering, polymer engineering, etc.
Requirements:
Experience on Polymer Microscopy (SEM/EDS) and sample preparation (etching, microtome, ETC)
Experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and calibrating analytical instruments
Understanding chemical safety
Strong communication and coordination skill
Willingness to learn, self-development
MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint Skills
Preferred:
Analytical chemistry laboratory or chemistry/polymer industry experience
Experience on Spectroscopy (IR, Raman, NMR), Thermal analysis (DSC, Hypenated-TGA)
Standard testing (e.g. ASTM, ISO) experience
Programming and/or software skills for data analysis (e.g. curve fitting), statistical analysis, automation.
