Lattice Boom Crawler Crane Operator/Pile Driver
Kemp Sigmon Construction Co., Inc. is a general contracting company that specializes
in heavy civil construction work, including site clearing, utilities, mass excavation,
bridges and stormwater management systems. We are looking for a Certified Crane
Operator to operate various types of cranes specifically Lattice Boom Cranes and heavy
machinery on construction sites. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in
crane operations, pile driving, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work
collaboratively with a diverse team on all construction projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operate pile driving cranes and other heavy machinery safely and efficiently to
lift, move, and position materials and equipment on construction sites.
Conduct pile driving operations, including the installation of foundation piles,
ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
Interpret and understand blueprints, site plans, and lift plans to execute
operations accurately and safely.
Assist in rigging loads, ensuring proper balance and securing of materials before
lifting.
Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent
overload
Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent
malfunctions or damage
Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables as
needed
Communicate effectively with ground personnel and team members to coordinate
lifting, rigging, and pile driving operations.
Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or outrigging under cranes
Make precise load placements where exact movements are necessary, to
position the load accurately and safely
Performs loading and unloading of equipment and supplies, where masts,
antennas, and other obstructions exist
Will work in a cab and use pilot operated joystick controls, pedals, levers and
buttons to lift, move, and position loads using hoisting attachments, such as
hooks, slings, electromagnets, and buckets
Operators will observe load hookup and determine safety of load and inspect and
report on crane and hosting mechanisms
Implement safety and quality guidelines
Ensure the job site remains safe, clean, and in order
Quickly resolve on-site issues and emergencies
Perform other duties as assigned and reasonably within the scope of duties
enumerated above
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Three+ years of crane experience
Certified Crane Operator License (Must be current and active)
Valid and updated NCCCO crane certification
NCDOT bridge experience highly preferred
Must always be careful and attentive so they can follow directions closely as they
will communicate with team members both verbally and by signal instruction
Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all
necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards
Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites
In-depth understanding of construction operations and processes
Organizational and time management skills
Agility, coordination, and alertness are necessary as work is in vicinity of heavy
equipment and traffic
Ability to access the machines while utilizing all mirrors, windows, controls, and
gauges to properly and safely operate the machines is critical
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Reliability is an essential function of the job
Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe
manner
Accept responsibility for your safety, as well as the safety of others
Willingness to travel as necessary
Ability to read and follow written instructions
Ability to work independently as well as be a part of the team with minimal day to
day supervision – must be self-directed

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position will be outdoors in all weather conditions and vary from multiple job sites
Must be able to:
Maneuver within the work environment and sit or stand for prolonged periods of
time with walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Apply physical mobility, including reaching, lifting, holding, pushing and pulling,
carrying, bending, climbing stairs, kneeling, arm and leg extension
Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise,
grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction site
Work near heavy equipment and moving machinery on a regular basis
Work environment will involve working with a variety of substances commonly
found on a construction site such as oil, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel
Frequently enter/exit the vehicle as well as the rear cargo area
Must be able to use hands, fingers, hands and feet, talk and hear and smell
Able to see clearly, identify and distinguish colors, see peripherally, have depth
perception and can adjust and focus
Must be able to wear/utilize applicable safety equipment or practices to work in
environments as needed
Occasionally lift 80+ pounds
Loud noise
