Salary: $18.00 - $20.00 Hourly Location : Stamford, CT Job Type: Seasonal/Temporary Department: Office of Operations Division: Collections Opening Date: 03/18/2026 Closing Date: 7/3/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Bargaining Unit: N/AJOB SUMMARYUnder the general direction of a supervisor, performs routine manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in support of municipal solid waste and recycling collection operations. Work involves collecting, loading, and transporting refuse, recyclables, yard waste, and other materials; assisting with the operation of collection vehicles; and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards along collection routes and at municipal facilities.EXAMPLES OF DUTIESPerforms related duties as required. Collects residential and commercial refuse, recycling, yard waste, and other materials along assigned routes. Loads materials manually into collection vehicles or designated containers. Assists the driver with safe and efficient operation of refuse and recycling trucks. Rides on collection vehicles and dismounts frequently to retrieve and empty containers. Operates hand tools and basic equipment used in waste and recycling operations. Separates recyclable materials when required and ensures proper placement of materials. Cleans spills and debris resulting from collection activities. Returns refuse containers to proper locations after collection. Maintains awareness of safety procedures and uses required personal protective equipment. Reports unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or route concerns to supervisors. May assist with snow removal and other emergency operations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER ATTRIBUTESAbility to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to safely handle refuse, recyclables, and related materials. Ability to maintain reliable attendance and work assigned routes on schedule. Ability to observe and follow safety procedures. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred. Some experience in laboring work, sanitation, recycling, construction, or related field preferred. Valid driver's license may be required depending on assignment. If the position is a seasonal/temporary position, it is not eligible for union benefits.
