Position:High School Student Intern: Operations & MaintenanceEligibility:EVHS students (ages 15-19)Work Unit/Location: Central OfficeReports to:Alejandro Tito OrtizEmployment Term:8 weeks, June 1-July 24Rate of Pay: $16.00/hr.Hours:8 hrs/day; 6:00 AM - 2:30 PMGeneral Job Function:The Operations & Maintenance intern will gain hands-on experience working alongside thedistrict's maintenance team, transportation team, and custodial teams to support the upkeepand functionality of school facilities. Interns will assist with general maintenance tasks, cleaning,minor repairs, and fleet vehicle upkeep while learning essential skills related to facilityoperations, workplace safety, and equipment handling.Learning Outcomes:By the end of the internship, students will:? Understand basic building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentrytasks.? Learn proper custodial procedures for maintaining a clean and safe school environment.? Gain experience in facility inspections, equipment handling, and repair techniques.? Develop teamwork, problem-solving, and workplace communication skills.? Learn about safety protocols, hazardous material handling, and emergency responseprocedures.Duties/Responsibilities:? Assist in general school maintenance, including painting, minor repairs, andlandscaping.? Support custodial teams with daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, andsanitizing.? Help with the setup and breakdown of school facilities for events and activities.? Perform basic equipment maintenance, including checking HVAC filters and replacinglight bulbs.? Assist with inventory management and organization of maintenance supplies.? Learn and follow district safety guidelines and proper use of maintenance tools andcleaning chemicals.? Shadow experienced staff to understand district-wide facility operations andmaintenance procedures.Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:? Interest in Trades, Facilities Maintenance, or Construction.? Willingness to perform physical tasks and work in various environments.? Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team.? Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment is a plus but not required.? Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.Preferred Qualifications? InterestPhysical Requirements? Must be able to lift 35 pounds at times.? Standing, walking for more than 4 hours? Lifting, climbing stairs/ladders? Riding in a vehicle to sites district-wideWork Environment:? Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.? Begins and completes work within the allotted time.?
