The coach motivates student-athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. Works closely with student-athletes to develop good character on and off the court. Assists teachers, counselors, and other school personnel with student-athlete attendance, academics, and behavior in and out of basketball season.STUDENT ELIGIBILITY AND PROGRAM SIZE7th Grade15-20 student-athletesLENGTH OF PROGRAMBoys In-Season:Weeks: 10Contests: 13 + 1 tournamentMonday-FridayGirls In-Season:Weeks: 9Contests: 14 + 1 tournamentMonday-FridayMEETINGS AND ACTIVITIESAttends organizational meetings for the team and coachesAttends annual athletic department meetings and seasonal player/parent meetingsAttends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performanceMaintains certifications via NFHS/IHSAAMeets with varsity head coach before, during, and after the season to ensure program continuityLeads team in a community service projectRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESAssesses players' skills and assigns team positionsDevelops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team developmentCoaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sportObserves players, during competitions and practices, to determine the needs for individual or team improvementDetermines game strategy based on the team's capabilitiesEstablishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all timesMonitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are metFollows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injuryEncourages players to play multiple sportsFollows IHSAA/IIAAA/LMSAC regulations adopted by the athletic departmentModels sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectatorsFollows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniformsMaintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related recordsOTHER INFORMATIONPerforms any other related duties as assigned by the head coach, school principal, athletic director, or other appropriate administratorsIs a participating member of coach's association
