The primary mission is to increase the rate at which participants complete their secondary school education, and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education. The UB program provides academic, co- and extracurricular activities during the academic year and the summer, including instruction, tutoring, college tours, cultural events, health and fitness activities, educational workshops, and service activities.About Ub Summer AcademyThe UB Summer Academy is a six-week program that simulates commuter and residential college experiences. The Summer Academy serves approximately 40 students from the Lynn Public Schools. This year's Summer Academy includes a four-week, day program at North Shore Community College's Lynn Campus and a two- week residential program at UMass Amherst. The program runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM during the non-residential component and Sunday evening through Saturday afternoon during the residential component. The overarching theme for this year's Summer Academy is, Starfleet Academy.General Statement Of DutiesThe four Academy Learning Leaders support the curricular, co- and extra-curricular of the UB Summer Academy.Essential FunctionsGeneralAttend and participate in staff training, daily/weekly staff meetings, and end-of-program activitiesBuild and maintain a positive, supportive, productive, and safe environment for both students and staffAssist with opening or closing the program each day, greeting students, monitoring activities, assisting students getting to/from class, announcements; and organizing program spaces and supplies via zoomAssist the Program Coordinator and Community Team Leaders with workshopsDevelop announcements and organize program spaces and supplies for activitiesAssist with monitoring student behavior for compliance with Upward Bound and college policiesAssisting students getting to/from class (sending links, phone calls, text messages, reminders, etc.)Assist instructors with the preparation of class material and student reportsServe as the tutor for assigned classes; work closely with the instructors to provide interventions and support; provide academic support during office hoursIndividually mentor and conduct weekly student group meetings for an assigned group of studentsServe as a role model for students during social and virtual activitiesAssist with daily student curricular and co-curricular activities and field trips as neededAppropriately represent NSCC and UB at all eventsOther duties as assignedResidential ComponentShared responsibility for dormitory supervision of project participantsAssist with dining hall, floor duty, bell-desk coverage, and monitoring residence hall floorsAssist with residence hall set up and clean-up during and beginning and the end of the program.Job RequirementsCompletion of at least one year of college and current enrollment in an undergraduate programKnowledge of/experience with the Upward Bound programDemonstrated high degree of creativity, energy, and enthusiasmDemonstrated ability to be punctual and dependableDemonstrated ability to act as a team playerAvailability to complete mandatory staff training before the start of the summer componentBi-lingual (Spanish, French, Khmer) preferredPrevious residence life, advising, and/or tutoring experience preferredTutoring experience, particularly with low income and/or minority youth preferredDemonstrated sensitivity towards and passion and commitment to working with students and staff of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, different levels of academic preparation, or/and varying physical and learning abilities; prior experience preferredCandidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI background check as a condition of employmentAdditional InformationNorth Shore Community College is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, sex, disability, religion, age, veteran status, genetic information, pregnancy or related conditions, gender identity, sex characteristics, sex stereotypes or sexual orientation in its programs and activities as required by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other applicable statutes and college policies.
