Paramedic (Full-time)

JOB Under the general supervision of the EMS Chief, the Paramedic provides high-quality emergency medical services by responding to 911 emergency calls, delivering basic and advanced life saving measures, and transporting patients to appropriate medical facilities in accordance with State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services protocols and local medical direction. This Paramedic also responds to mutual aid requests, closest ALS calls, structure fires, hazardous materials incidents, mass casualty events, weapons of mass destruction situations, active assailant incidents, and law enforcement standbys. Responds promptly and safely to emergency calls, providing basic and advanced life support (BLS/ALS) in accordance with state protocols and medical direction.Assesses patient conditions, determines appropriate treatment, and administers medications, therapies, and procedures within scope of practice. Documents patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes accurately and thoroughly in medical records.Operates and maintains emergency medical equipment, including cardiac monitors, defibrillators, airway devices, IV pumps, and other life-saving tools.Communicates with patients, families, bystanders, and other emergency responders, providing clear information. Secures, transfers and transports patients to the emergency vehicle and to an appropriate medical facility and emergency department staff. Continues delivering care during all transport.Collaborates with fire, police, and other public safety personnel at emergency scenes, including mutual aid requests, structure fires, hazardous materials incidents, mass casualty events, weapons of mass destruction situations, and active assailant incidents.Provides standby emergency care at local sporting and community events.Performs ambulance inventory and operational maintenance tasks ensuring equipment is cleaned, stocked, and maintained in a state of readiness.Participates in training, drills, and staff development programs to maintain required certifications and proficiency.Participates in public education, outreach events, and safety programs to promote health, wellness, and emergency preparedness.Completes special projects and other job duties as assigned or required. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION A rotation of 48 hours on - 96 hours off or a unique non-traditional schedule will be assigned to cover PTO shift with a guarantee of 48 hours assigned per week is required for this position. Assignment of overtime will follow the provisions outlined in the current Local 311 Labor Agreement.Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and other environmental factors.Work will involve contact with the public, requiring effective communication and professional conduct.Work will involve exposure to stressful situations, deadlines, or conflict resolution.Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and lift objects up to 100 pounds.Work requires extended periods of standing or walking.Work will involve operating standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.).Vision and hearing are required to perform essential functions and communicate effectively.Work may require climbing, operating equipment, or working in confined spaces.
