Welding Engineer

The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Ensures that all Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and metUpdates and develops PQR's, WPS's, techniques, training programs, and the application of welding equipmentDevelops, reviews, and updates QA Documentation to support Quality Management SystemUnderstands and implements applicable QA processes in accordance with the Quality PolicyConducts research and development for continuous improvementEstablishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, and pre- and post-heating requirementsRepresents the Quality Director in all aspects of their welding responsibilitiesProvides close support and training to the quality control department along with Supervisors, Foremen and Managers as neededActs as a welding mentor and trainer to shipyard personnelEnsures that the welding processes and sequences are documented in the building method and the welding teams are following the descriptionChecks the effectiveness of our welding equipment, welding consumables, and recommends alternative selections in case of problems or special welding conditionsPrepares technical reports in support of management presentation, procurement decisions, process improvement, research and development and preventive maintenance investigationsEvaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes, and takes corrective action to remedy non-conformancesDirects and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certificationMaintains welder performance training record log to record all training given to the welderPerform other related duties as required and assignedCOMPETENCIESAble to communicate and adapt effectively with all levels of the organizationProfessionalism and work in an ethical mannerLeadership, Guidance and IntegrityDecision making/Problem solvingWillingness and ability to work individually and as a team memberAbility to categorize and Quantify weld defectsSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTYThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelors or Masters in Welding Engineering or related discipline5 years of Welding Engineering experience in the field5 years of practical experience and knowledge in basic welding processes; FCAW, SMAW, SAW, EGW, GTAW, GMAWExperienced in AWS D1.1, ABS & Mil Std 248 codesNDE Level 2 experience is preferredWORK ENVIRONMENTEnvironmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke.
