Postdoctoral Research Scholar/Associate Research Scholar

The Department of Classics at Columbia University invites applications for a one-year publication fellowship for the period July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026 in the Classics and adjacent fields funded by the Stanwood Cockey Lodge Fund. The fellowship is meant to assist an early career scholar towards substantial progress in publication of a monograph in one of these fields. Candidates are asked to provide a CV, cover letter, description of project, and substantially finalized version of sample chapter.
The Lodge Fellowship recipient will hold the rank of Postdoctoral Research Scholar or Associate Research Scholar in the Department of Classics and is expected to take full part in the intellectual life of the department. In addition, the fellowship recipient will be expected to give three presentations on their project in the Department of Classics during the course of the academic year 2025-26. The fellowship recipient is expected to reside in the New York area. Upon completion of the project, the fellowship recipient will inform the Lodge Board, and acknowledge the support of the Lodge Fund in all published outputs.
$82,000 salary + $1000 research allowance.

Postdoctoral research scholar appointments provide additional training after a doctoral degree and are normally appointed within one year of receiving their degree in the humanities and social sciences unless they have documented evidence of circumstances such as leaves or substantial career change.
Associate research scholars are junior officers whose qualifications and contributions to their fields of research are equivalent to those of an assistant professor. They must hold a doctoral degree or its professional equivalent and perform independent research in the area of their training.
