Salary: Depends on QualificationsLocation : Yukon, OKJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202400079Department: Development ServicesOpening Date: 03/27/2026Closing Date: 4/24/2026 11:59 PM CentralDescriptionGeneral DescriptionUnder general direction, the Assistant Planning Director is responsible for supporting and managing day-to-day operations related to urban planning, zoning administration, and land use compliance. This position coordinates current and long-range planning activities, reviews development proposals, and ensures compliance with applicable municipal codes and regulations.The position serves as a key liaison between the City, developers, boards and commissions, and the public, while assisting in the implementation of development initiatives, redevelopment efforts, and economic development strategies.Examples of DutiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities• Serves as liaison and staff support to the Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and other boards or commissions as assigned; prepares agendas, conducts case research, ensures legal notification requirements are met, and attends meetings.• Responds to inquiries from board members, staff, and the public; addresses citizen concerns, protests, and complaints; and briefs management on pending cases and issues.• Acts as a primary point of contact for public inquiries related to planning, zoning, and land use; resolves issues independently when appropriate.• Coordinates with Building Inspection and Code Enforcement to ensure compliance with municipal codes, including zoning, health, safety, and related regulations.• Reviews and processes development applications, including rezoning requests, plats, site plans, specialuse permits, and variances.• Communicates with internal departments and external stakeholders via phone, email, and written correspondence.• Facilitates public meetings, workshops, and community engagement efforts as needed.• Conducts field inspections and site visits as required.• Assists in drafting ordinances, updating policies and procedures, reviewing fee structures, and maintaining related documentation and forms.• Assists with grant applications, project coordination, and special planning initiatives.• Maintains records, prepares reports, and supports departmental projects and operations.• Performs other related duties as assigned.Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.• Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field preferred.• Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible planning experience.• Working knowledge of planning principles, zoning regulations, and municipal code enforcement practices.• Basic understanding of applicable laws, administrative procedures, and municipal processes.Supplemental InformationCertificates, Licenses, and Registrations• Valid Oklahoma Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe, preferred.Please review the background consent form:This is a summary of benefits for all General Employees. You may add dependents to your health insurance at yourcost. Your benefits begin the 1st of the month after hire date.Holidays:General full-time employees receive 13 paid holidays per year. These areto be taken as directed by City of Yukon policy.Longevity:Full-time employees - $16.00 per month after your 4th year of service, Retirement:General employees - The City has a Defined Contribution Plan. The employeemust contribute 5% per check to this plan and for 2025-2026 the City will contribute17.36% per pay check toward your retirement. The vesting period is 7 years.This deduction starts the 1st of the month after 90 days.Share the Savings:If you choose not to cover you and/or your dependent(s) on the City's insurance,we will compensate you. (must have eligible dependents with proof of othercoverage) General employees - $ 235.00 per quarter.Sick Leave:General employees earn 8 hours per month.You are not eligible to use earned leave until you have completed 6 continuousmonths of employment.Vacation Leave:General employees earn 8 hours per month the first 9 years of employment.You are not eligible to use earned leave until you have completed 6 continuousmonths of employment.Water License Incentive:$ 25.00 - $ 100.00 - Paid in March of each year.NOTE: We require mandatory direct deposit of payroll funds.
