PPLIED’s mission is to solve two major hiring challenges on one simple, accessible platform.Role Description The Software Engineer Technical Lead is a full-time hybrid role based in San Jose, CA, with flexibility for some work from home. This role oversees the design, development, and maintenance of back-end services and core platform features that power PPLIED’s matching and automation capabilities. Day-to-day tasks include leading a small engineering team, setting technical direction, conducting code reviews, and ensuring high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions. The Technical Lead collaborates closely with product, design, and data teams to translate business requirements into robust technical architectures and implements best practices for coding, testing, deployment, and monitoring. The role also involves mentoring engineers, improving development processes, and contributing hands-on code to critical components of the system.QualificationsStrong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software architecture principles.Hands-on experience in Software Development and Programming, with proficiency in at least one modern language (e.g., Java, C#, Python, Go, or Node.js).Practical expertise in Back-End Web Development, including APIs, microservices, databases, and performance optimization.Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and ability to apply them to maintainable, modular codebases.Previous experience leading or mentoring engineering teams, setting technical direction, and owning end-to-end delivery of features.Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), CI/CD pipelines, and modern development workflows.Knowledge of security, reliability, and scalability best practices in distributed systems.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders in a hybrid work environment.
