Your adventure awaits!Medallion Instrumentation Systems, a division of Patrick Industries, is seeking an Embedded Platform Engineer to lead embedded platform development from initial hardware bring-up through production launch. This role is responsible for low-level platform software, Linux and Android platform integration, kernel and driver development, embedded firmware, and system reliability. The Embedded Platform Engineer will provide technical leadership across the embedded software stack while partnering closely with hardware, systems, manufacturing, and product teams to deliver high-quality embedded products.Responsibilities & DutiesEmbedded Platform Bring-Up & Hardware EnablementLead embedded platform bring-up activities from initial power-on through production releaseDevelop and maintain boot software including U-Boot, ARM Trusted Firmware, and custom bootloadersConfigure and validate low-level hardware initialization including memory, clocks, power management, and peripheral interfacesLead DDR/DRAM bring-up, tuning, and stability validation across operating conditionsDebug complex hardware and software integration issues throughout the complete boot chainCollaborate with hardware engineering teams on board design reviews, prototype validation, manufacturing readiness, and production supportUtilize JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related tools to diagnose hardware and system issuesLinux Platform DevelopmentPort, customize, and maintain Linux distributions on ARM and ARM64 embedded platformsIntegrate and maintain vendor Board Support Packages (BSPs)Develop userspace environments utilizing Yocto, Buildroot, Debian, Ubuntu, Alpine Linux, or similar platformsOptimize platform boot time, performance, reliability, and maintainabilitySupport long-term platform lifecycle management and software quality initiativesTroubleshoot and resolve Linux platform issues across multiple product generationsKernel, Driver & Middleware DevelopmentDevelop, customize, integrate, and maintain Linux kernel variants and device driversSupport graphics, display, camera, imaging, audio, wireless, storage, and high-speed interface technologiesDevelop and maintain support for embedded communication buses and peripheral devicesIntegrate multimedia, graphics, networking, and hardware acceleration frameworksDebug issues spanning firmware, kernel drivers, middleware, and userspace applicationsSupport system performance tuning and optimization activitiesEmbedded Firmware DevelopmentDevelop embedded firmware for MCU-based subsystems, including ARM Cortex-M platformsSupport mixed Linux and MCU architectures utilized for sensing, control, power management, and peripheral managementDevelop and maintain hardware abstraction layers, peripheral drivers, and low-level firmwareSupport RTOS-based systems including FreeRTOS and similar environmentsApply real-time design principles including task scheduling, synchronization, interrupts, and concurrency managementTroubleshoot and optimize embedded firmware performance and reliabilityFirmware Updates, Recovery & System ReliabilityDesign and implement firmware deployment, update, and recovery mechanismsSupport OTA update capabilities, secure update frameworks, A/B partitioning, rollback, and recovery workflowsMaintain firmware version control, release processes, and software deployment standardsImprove overall platform resiliency, uptime, and securitySupport cybersecurity initiatives related to embedded systems and firmwareEnsure systems meet reliability and long-term support requirementsAndroid Platform IntegrationSupport Android platform bring-up and deployment activitiesIntegrate bootloaders, kernels, BSPs, HALs, and vendor-specific Android componentsTroubleshoot Android platform issues across software layersOptimize system performance, stability, and reliabilitySupport Android-based embedded product development initiativesCollaborate with system architects and application developers on Android platform solutionsTechnical Leadership & CollaborationProvide technical leadership for embedded software architecture and platform design decisionsMentor engineers and promote software engineering best practicesParticipate in code reviews, architecture reviews, and technical planning sessionsCollaborate with hardware, systems, manufacturing, and product teams throughout the product lifecycleSupport continuous improvement initiatives related to embedded software development processesContribute to engineering standards, documentation, and product quality effortsQualifications And SkillsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline8+ years of experience developing embedded Linux systems and Board Support PackagesStrong experience with ARM and ARM64 processor architecturesExpert-level C programming skillsWorking knowledge of assembly language programmingExperience bringing embedded products from development through production launchExperience developing and maintaining Linux kernels, device drivers, and embedded software platformsKnowledge of embedded boot architectures, bootloaders, and low-level hardware initializationExperience with DDR/DRAM bring-up and hardware validation activitiesExperience with Yocto, Buildroot, Debian, Ubuntu, Alpine Linux, or similar Linux build environmentsExperience with embedded firmware development and RTOS-based systemsFamiliarity with Android platform integration and customizationExperience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated software build and test environmentsExperience utilizing JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related debugging toolsStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilitiesAbility to work independently and contribute effectively within small to medium-sized engineering teamsStrong written and verbal
