Paraprofessional/Instructional Aide
General Summary:
The Paraprofessional supports student learning and program operations at The Learning Canvas (TLC), a project-based, hands-on learning center serving mixed-age learners. This role assists facilitators with instructional support, student supervision, social-emotional development, and classroom organization. The Paraprofessional helps create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students can explore, collaborate, and build academic and life skills.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Instructional Support
Assist facilitators with the implementation of lessons, projects, and enrichment activities.
Work with small groups and individual students to reinforce academic and social-emotional skills.
Support hands-on learning experiences such as STEM projects, art, building tasks, and collaborative activities.
Help prepare instructional materials and learning spaces for daily activities.
Provide accommodations and support strategies for diverse learners as directed by facilitators or the Program Coordinator.
Student Supervision & Support
Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, outdoor time, and enrichment blocks.
Support positive behavior using TLC’s behavior expectations and restorative/SEL-based practices.
Assist students with conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and peer collaboration.
Monitor student safety at all times and respond appropriately to incidents.
Classroom & Program Support
Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging learning environment.
Support setup and cleanup of materials, projects, and shared learning spaces.
Assist with student arrival, dismissal, and daily routines.
Provide logistical support during special events, presentations, and family engagement activities.
Communication & Team Collaboration
Collaborate with facilitators and staff to support student needs.
Share observations about student progress, behavior, and engagement with supervising staff.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding students and families.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with children.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Patience, flexibility, and supportive demeanor.
Basic understanding of child development and behavior support strategies.
Ability to follow directions and take initiative when appropriate.
Comfort supporting hands-on, active, and non-traditional learning environments.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred associates degree or college coursework in education, child development, psychology or related field.
Experience supporting project-based or experiential learning environments.
Familiarity with social-emotional learning (SEL) practices.
Experience working with mixed-age groups.
Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, camp, or youth program setting preferred.
Ability to pass background clearance and any required child safety clearances.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Schedule:
10 – 12 hours per week (as needed).
Schedule may vary based on program needs and may include school year and/or summer programming hours.
Specific work hours will be determined by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move around active learning environments for extended periods.
Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and sit on the floor.
Ability to lift and carry classroom materials (up to approximately 25 lbs.).
Ability to supervise outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
Work Environment
This position works in an active, hands-on learning environment that includes classroom spaces, outdoor learning areas, and community-based activities. Noise levels and activity levels may be high during portions of the day.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
