Auto Technician Mechanic

Job Description An Automotive Technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains vehicle systems—including engines, transmissions, electrical, and HVAC—using advanced computerized diagnostic tools. Key duties include conducting inspections, road-testing vehicles, performing maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations), and communicating repair needs to customers. Qualifications often include technical training, ASE certifications, and own tools. Key ResponsibilitiesDiagnostics: Identify vehicle issues using specialized computer diagnostic equipment.Repair & Maintenance: Perform repairs, maintenance, and installations for engines, braking systems, suspensions, and electrical components.Testing: Road-test vehicles to confirm repairs meet performance standards.Documentation: Maintain accurate records of service work, parts utilized, and time required.Customer Interaction: Discuss vehicle issues, provide repair estimates, and explain required services to customers. Required Qualifications & SkillsTechnical Knowledge: Proficiency in using diagnostic software and power tools.Understanding and repair of electrical wiring.Very organized and attention to detail.Follow maintenance car service.Knowledge of diesels and repair of diesels.Certification: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications are highly preferred.Education: High school diploma, plus specialized training from a technical school.Experience: Previous experience, typically 3-5+ years, in automotive diagnostics and repair.Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for reporting to customers and service advisors. Work EnvironmentTypically works in a well-ventilated repair shop or dealership.Frequent lifting of heavy equipment and prolonged standing.Exposure to noisy, greasy, and occasionally hazardous materials.
