Arc and Mig Welding TechnicianSets-up and operates arc and mig welding equipment to weld frames to part print specifications to meet plant quality and production standards. Essential duties include reading production orders and part prints to determine dimensions, retrieving fixtures, equipment, and parts, and welding approximately 60 different frame assemblies with some 275 variations. The technician inspects parts for deficient welds and compensates for material irregularities. Other duties include grinding down deficient welds and rewelding correctly, measuring completed frames for accuracy and conformance to specifications using scales and square, performing preventive maintenance on weld equipment, maintaining cleanliness of work area, and following safe work practice rules.Position requirements include three months of commercial, vocational, or other specialized training beyond high school and one year of related work experience. Physical demands include skilled, accurate, rapid, and some closely coordinated manual or other physical actions, mostly moderate but some heavy muscular effort, and difficult work positions. Working conditions include limited exposure to one or two extremely disagreeable features, with hazards that may result in short term work-related absences.
