Location: Addison, IL Work Type: Onsite Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Certified Flavor Chemist to develop, test, and optimize flavor formulations for food and beverage applications. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams and customers to deliver innovative, high-quality flavor solutions that meet regulatory and market requirements. Key Responsibilities Develop and formulate new flavor profiles aligned with customer needs and market trends Conduct sensory evaluation and analysis using quantitative and qualitative methods Partner directly with customers to support and finalize projects Scale flavor formulations from lab to pilot plant and production levels Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, labeling, and allergen requirements Maintain detailed documentation of formulations, test results, and reports Collaborate with product development, QA, marketing, and production teams Troubleshoot flavor stability and performance issues during development Provide technical support and training to internal teams and clients Work with suppliers to source and evaluate new flavor ingredients Mentor and support Flavor Apprentices preparing for certification Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related field Certified member of the Society of Flavor Chemists (MANDATORY) 7+ years of experience in flavor development Experience with reaction flavors and scaling processes Knowledge of flavor ingredient labeling and regulatory compliance Experience with pilot plant operations Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access) Experience with flavor formulation systems (e.g., Sage X3, Product Vision, E-Book) preferred Comfortable using web-based systems and learning new xywuqvp software Key Competencies Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment Physical & Work Environment Combination of office, lab, and production floor exposure Frequent standing, tasting, and smelling required Ability to lift up to 20–30 lbs Exposure to food allergens, odors, and manufacturing noise Safety Requirements Steel-toe shoes required on production floor Hairnets, beard nets, and lab coats mandatory in production areas
