Senior Software Engineer (Python)

The NYISO’s Information Technology department invites applications for a full-time Senior Software Engineer to join our team.We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with advanced Python development skills and a strong background in data analysis, modeling and transformation. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of power systems modeling, simulation and analysis, and will play a key role in supporting and enhancing Python-based applications used across engineering workflows. This role requires daily use of AI-augmented programming practices and includes mentoring staff in adopting these tools to improve productivity and innovation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIESDesign, develop, and support maintenance of Python-based tools for power system simulation, data processing, and visualizationLead the integration of Python APIs and scripts from commercial and custom power system analysis tools into internal workflowsDevelop automated testing, deployment, and monitoring solutions for a variety of systemsElicit system requirements from business ownersCollaborate with appropriate teams to implement and optimize DevOps pipelines to ensure secure and efficient software delivery of custom software toolsUse AI-augmented programming tools (e.g., code generation assistants, intelligent IDEs) as part of daily development workMentor staff in adopting AI-augmented programming practicesCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, business owners and project managers to gather requirements and provide technical expertiseSupport and enhance existing applications by working with vendors to improve their products in the areas of required business functionality and securityEnsure compliance with cybersecurity standards and best practicesDocument code, processes, and system architecture clearly and effectivelyQualifications:Bachelor's Degree (BS), Computer Science or Information Systems desiredAt least three years of experience working with DevOps and Python-based solutionsAdvanced proficiency in Python, including experience with scientific and data libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib) and object-oriented conceptsStrong experience in integrating and managing APIs across diverse platforms and toolsExperience with data modeling and transformationStrong interest in learning about power system simulation methodologies such as load flow analysis, contingency analysis, and production cost modelingExperience using AI-augmented development environments and toolsFamiliarity with DevOps principles and tools, including CI/CD pipelines and version control systems (e.g., Git)Understanding of security best practices and compliance frameworksUnderstanding of cloud computing concepts, designs, and servicesStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting skillsExcellent communication and teamwork abilitiesWillingness to participate in a 24x7x365 on-call support rotationData analytics and business intelligence experience preferredMATLAB experience preferredCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSNone required.Additional RequirementsAbility to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
