Our work focuses on delegated engineering design supporting elevator manufacturers, elevator contractors, and project design teams. We provide practical, code-compliant structural solutions for elevator systems installed within both existing and new buildings.
Projects routinely involve coordination with building Engineers of Record, architects, contractors, elevator manufacturer R&D departments, and approving jurisdictions including DSA, HCAI, cities, and counties throughout California and other states.
Position Overview
TOG Engineering is seeking a licensed California Structural Engineer (SE) to support and lead engineering projects involving elevator modernization and vertical transportation systems.
The role is highly technical and hands‑on, with approximately 80% focused on engineering production work and 20% focused on supervising engineering staff, QA/QC review, and technical coordination.
The position involves structural analysis, seismic anchorage design, delegated engineering, retrofit design, and coordination of permit‑ready submittal packages for elevator‑related systems and equipment.
The selected candidate will supervise staff engineers while coordinating directly with elevator manufacturers, contractors, Engineers of Record, and approving agencies.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform structural analysis and engineering design for elevator modernization and new elevator installations
Design seismic anchorage and structural supports for elevator equipment, controllers, electrical cabinets, guide rails, machine beams, escalators, and moving walks
Design anchorage and support systems for associated electrical conduit, cable trays, hydraulic piping, and related elevator components
Perform structural evaluations and retrofit design within existing building environments
Prepare structural calculations, engineering drawings, and permit‑ready delegated design submittal packages
Coordinate engineering approvals with DSA, HCAI, cities, counties, and project Engineers of Record
Coordinate directly with elevator manufacturers, contractors, and manufacturer R&D departments
Review and supervise work performed by staff engineers and designers
Support QA/QC review of engineering calculations and drawings
Respond to RFIs, submittals, field conditions, and contractor coordination items
Support engineering operations and internal technical standards development
Coordinate engineering work for projects throughout California and other states
Field verification and occasional project site visits may be required
Report to company EOR and Operations Manager
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis
Minimum 5 years of strong structural engineering experience
Strong background in seismic engineering and structural analysis with emphasis on ASCE 7 Chapter 13 nonstructural component design
Experience preparing structural calculations, engineering drawings, and delegated design submittal packages
Strong communication and coordination skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a consulting environment
Strong practical understanding of existing building conditions and constructability
Recently licensed SE candidates will be considered if they demonstrate strong technical capability and relevant experience aligned with the company’s engineering services.

Experience in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred:
Elevator modernization projects
Vertical transportation systems
Seismic anchorage and nonstructural component design
Existing building retrofit and rehabilitation projects
Coordination with DSA and HCAI
Anchorage design using Hilti or Simpson software platforms
Coordination with specialty contractors and equipment manufacturers
Software Experience
Preferred experience with:
AutoCAD
Microsoft Excel
Visual Basic programming within Excel
Hilti PROFIS
Simpson Anchor Designer
RISA
AI‑based engineering productivity platforms such as ChatGPT, Grok, or similar tools
Additional Requirements
Willingness to pursue licensure in additional states as required
Ability to work collaboratively within a specialized engineering consulting environment
Ability to perform the actual work required as well as supervise and mentor junior engineering staff
