We are seeking an experienced Forward Deployment Engineer (Java Full Stack) to join the Portfolio Accounting and Data Services team at Northern Trust. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, React.js, Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes/AKS, and cloud-native application development. In this role, you will design, develop, deploy, and maintain scalable enterprise applications while collaborating with business stakeholders, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams. The candidate should be comfortable working across frontend, backend, database, and cloud infrastructure layers, with a strong focus on application reliability, security, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade, cloud-native applications.
Build frontend applications using React.js, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap.
Develop backend services using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.
Design, query, and maintain SQL and NoSQL databases.
Deploy and manage applications in Microsoft Azure using containers and Kubernetes/AKS.Support production deployments, troubleshooting, defect resolution, and performance optimization.
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
Design applications for scalability, high availability, resiliency, disaster recovery, and failover.
Collaborate with Agile Scrum teams, business stakeholders, and technical leadership.
Conduct technical proofs of concept (POCs) and recommend appropriate cloud technologies.
Prepare technical documentation, architecture designs, and development standards.
Follow software development best practices throughout the SDLC.
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
Strong experience developing frontend applications using React.js and Single Page Applications (SPA).Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
At least 3 years of experience designing and developing cloud-native applications and microservices.
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, containers, and cloud application deployment.
Strong understanding of REST APIs, API integration, and microservices architecture.
Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence.
Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit, Jest, or Jasmine.
Understanding of application security, scalability, availability, and resiliency.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in banking, financial services, or other regulated enterprise environments.
Knowledge of portfolio accounting and financial data services.
Experience with Apache Airflow and cloud-based data engineering.
Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Terraform.
Familiarity with DevOps and DevSecOps practices.
Experience with automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
Experience working on enterprise cloud transformation initiatives.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a senior-level full stack engineer with deep Java backend expertise, hands-on React.js development experience, and practical Azure/AKS deployment experience.
