Data Infrastructure Engineer (Rust) - High Performance Computing
Data Infrastructure Engineer (Rust) — High Performance ComputingAbout The RoleWhat if your mastery of Rust could directly shape the infrastructure powering the next generation of AI? We're looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to build the high-performance data pipelines, annotation tooling, and evaluation systems that leading AI labs depend on to train and improve their most advanced models. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role for an elite systems engineer who knows Rust at a deep level — memory layout, SIMD, concurrency, and all. You'll work on real production systems at the frontier of AI development, collaborating with research and engineering teams doing genuinely important work.Organization: AlignerrType: Hourly ContractLocation: RemoteCommitment: 20–40 hours/weekWhat You'll DoDesign, build, and optimize high-performance Rust systems supporting large-scale AI data pipelines and evaluation workflowsDevelop full-stack tooling and backend services for data annotation, validation, and quality controlIdentify and eliminate bottlenecks through deep profiling, SIMD optimizations, and careful memory managementImprove reliability, performance, and safety across existing Rust codebasesCollaborate with data, research, and engineering teams to support model training and evaluation workflowsParticipate in synchronous design reviews and iterate quickly on system architecture decisionsWho You Are5+ years of professional experience writing production-grade RustDeep expertise in data parallelism and concurrency patterns — you know how to maximize CPU saturationStrong command of memory layout, SIMD optimizations, and heap allocation strategies to hunt down and fix performance bottlenecksNative or fluent English speaker with clear written and verbal communication skillsAble to commit 20–40 hours per week consistentlySelf-directed and comfortable working asynchronously in a remote engineering environmentNice to HavePrior experience with data annotation pipelines, data quality systems, or evaluation infrastructureFamiliarity with AI/ML workflows, model training, or benchmarking pipelinesExperience with distributed systems architecture or developer toolingBackground working with or alongside AI research teamsWhy Join UsWork on cutting-edge AI infrastructure projects alongside leading research labsFully remote and flexible — structure your work around your lifeFreelance autonomy with the substance of high-impact, senior-level engineering workTackle genuinely hard systems problems that matter at scalePotential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
