Campaign Director
Engagement Type: Independent Contractor Engagement Length: Approximately 10-12 months Time Commitment: To be proposed by respondent Reports To: Board of Directors Location: Remote-friendly; in-person availability required for donor meetings in the Philadelphia region Responses Due: June 30, 2026 Submit To: Zoe.Rankin@philadelphiamidwifecollective.org, joel.thomas@philadelphiamidwifecollective.org EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Philadelphia Midwife Collective is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to serve as Campaign Director on a time-limited, contractor basis. This is not a search for a permanent Director. Rather, PMC seeks a focused, senior-level partner to lead a $1,000,000 fundraising campaign over approximately 10-12 months—building on existing momentum and positioning the organization for long-term sustainability. The Campaign Director will bring dedicated fundraising expertise so PMC can act now, without waiting months for a permanent leadership hire—and without asking clinical staff to carry the full weight of campaign strategy.SCOPE OF WORK 1. Campaign Strategy & Execution Design and manage a campaign strategy with a clear donor pipeline, timeline, and milestones aligned to a 10-month engagement Identify, prioritize, and vet the strongest fundraising opportunities—major donors, institutional funders, and targeted grants Lead major donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation Pursue institutional grant opportunities (including health equity and reproductive health funders) with senior organizational credibility Build a portfolio of funder relationships that can be inherited and stewarded by a future permanent ED 2. Donor & Funder Engagement Serve as the primary campaign-facing relationship manager for major donors and funders Develop pitch strategy, talking points, and materials for high-value funder conversations Know what to elevate, what to pursue, and where organizational energy is best directed 3. Coaching & Clinical Leadership Support Coach Clinical Director/Interim Executive Director, Autumn Nelson, to serve credibly as PMC’s mission-facing leader in key funder conversations—without requiring her to carry full campaign strategy Prepare organizational representatives for major funder meetings through pitch prep, practice runs, and message framing Protect clinical staff time by identifying where their presence is most valuable and managing everything else 4. Organizational Capacity & Coordination Provide campaign-specific capacity so the board is not simultaneously running a full ED search and a major fundraising build Collaborate with existing staff on grant writing alignment and communications strategy Stabilize the fundraising foundation so that a future ED search can proceed from a position of strength DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS PMC is looking for a seasoned fundraising professional—not primarily a grant writer. Our track record shows that major funding comes through relationships, and the Campaign Director must lead with that instinct. Required Demonstrated success leading or significantly contributing to major gift and/or capital campaigns Experience cultivating individual major donors and/or institutional funders at meaningful gift levels Comfort representing an organization at the senior level in high-stakes funder conversations Ability to coach and prepare mission-driven leaders to tell their story with confidence Self-directed and entrepreneurial; able to operate effectively in a lean organization Preferred Familiarity with health equity, reproductive health, community health, or birth justice funding landscapes Experience with Philadelphia-area donors and funders Track record working in or with community-based organizations at a growth stage HOW TO RESPOND Interested contractors should submit the following by June 30th, 11:59PM EST: A brief letter of interest (no more than 2 pages) describing your approach, relevant experience, and why this engagement is a fit A résumé or CV highlighting relevant campaign and major gifts experience Two to three references from comparable fundraising engagements A proposed fee structure and time commitment Finalists may be invited for a conversation with PMC board and/or staff. PMC reserves the right to negotiate scope and terms with the selected contractor.
