Sr. Structural Engineer (Structural Engineer, Sr.)

Overview In this role, you will advance the structural analysis of deployable spacecraft systems, focusing on dynamic FE modeling and test validation. You will work within the Structural Analysis team to ensure structural integrity across large deployable solar arrays and related hardware. You will translate analyses into actionable feedback for design and support customer-facing reviews. This is a hands-on, impact-driven position in a company helping to enable space exploration missions. ResponsibilitiesDevelop system-level dynamic finite element models of deployable spacecraft structures using Ansys or Femap/NastranModel and analyze composite and metallic structures, including sandwich panelsSupport static and dynamic testing across all phases, including planning, execution, data processing, and reportingCorrelate analytical models with test results to validate performanceConduct piece-part stress analyses and document in stress reports for drawing releaseReview designs and provide actionable analysis feedback to Design EngineeringCollaborate with mechanical, thermal, and systems teams to ensure traceable structural requirementsPrepare and present technical reports and design review materials for internal and customer reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR)Interface with customers to align on technical issues and requirementsIndependently develop solutions and analysis approaches with minimal oversight Key requirementsBachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Systems, or related STEM discipline; 5+ years of relevant experienceSpace industry experience preferredExperience creating finite element models using Nastran or Ansys from CAD geometryVibration test experience (random and sine)Ability to travel to support testing; some overnight travel may be requiredStrong attention to detailSelf-motivated and able to work under general directionClear communication with cross-functional teams and customersFinite element modeling with Nastran/AnsysNon-linear and transient FEA analysisModeling deployable space structures and solar arrays
