Senior Marine WelderSerco is looking for an Senior Marine Welder to join a high-profile and challenging project supporting the US Navy in Newport News, VA. The Senior Marine Welder will be on a dynamic team, supporting our C5ISR system installations. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our Sailors. Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques. You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver high technology performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations. In this role, you will:Interpret specifications, drawings, blueprints, shop job orders and, process sheets.Use a variety of ARC and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as foundations, cable collars, cable/pipe/vent hangers, cable tubes penetrations, studs, etc.Perform related task such as thermal cutting (PLASMA or TORCH) and grinding.Cut metal into appropriate shape.Have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.Assign work to qualified personnel.Train new personnel on machinery, tools and test equipment required for quality construction of products.Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation and the like and with equipment where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, muscle strains, serious injury, or death.To be successful in this role, you will have:Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship RequiredThe ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.A High School Diploma or equivalent.A minimum of 8 years of experience (shipboard experience highly preferred).Complete successful qualifications in the following Serco Welding Procedures within 30 days of starting with Serco for continued employment with Serco: Serco-001 (GMAW, Aluminum - 4 position), Serco-002 (SMAW, HY100-4 position), Serco-003 (GMAW, Aluminum - 4 position), Serco-007 (SMAW, C/S to S/S - 4 position), and Serco-012 (SMAW, S/S to S/S - 4 position).Be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.Get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.Have your own tools of the trade and able to pass pre-certification company weld test.Be able to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard/shipboard stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.Have attention to safety (which is critical).The ability to travel up to 10% to various work sites.Be willing to work in Newport News, VA.Preferred Qualifications:An active DoD Secret ClearanceShipboard experienceAn OSHA 10 certification
