We are looking for a motivated candidate to help apply machine learning and automation techniques to operational datasets, supporting predictive analysis and workflow optimization across the network.This position requires the successful candidate to work on-site at our Walnut Creek corporate office at least three days per week.What You’ll DoIdentifying manual operational tasks and exploring automation opportunitiesBuilding and testing models to classify and analyze structured business dataAnalyzing operational performance data to identify efficiency patternsWorking with planning and scheduling data to explore forecasting approachesReviewing operational metrics to detect bottlenecks or variabilityPresenting clear, data-driven insights to internal stakeholdersDeveloping lightweight prototypes that reduce manual effort and can scale over timeTranslating analytical models into practical solutions that support real-world decision-makingYou Have These SkillsProficiency in PythonStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExperience with common data and machine learning libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn)Understanding of core machine learning concepts, including regression, classification, model evaluation, time series forecasting, and anomaly detectionSelf-motivated and comfortable working in evolving or ambiguous problem environmentsInterest in applying machine learning to operational and business use casesAnd These QualificationsPursuing a bachelor’s degree in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative fieldPrior completion of basic accounting/tax courses required.Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.Extra Credit If You HavePractical experience with machine learning or AI projectsPlease share GitHub, portfolio, or project examples demonstrating applied Machine Learning workThe hourly rate is posted for this position in California.At Matson, we're looking for people to build a unified team to maintain our values of trust, integrity, and reliability.
