Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing of classroom activities. This position is funded with federal grant funds and employment is contingent upon Notice of Grant Award.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High School Diploma or GEDAssociate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Secondary and Elementary Education Act.Valid Texas educational aide certificateSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Possess dual language skillsAbility to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematicsAbility to work well with childrenAbility to communicate effectivelyPhysical ability to move about in the classroom to monitor and supervise studentsLearn pertinent procedures and functions quickly and apply themUnderstand and carry out oral and written directionsEstablish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those encountered in the course of workExperience:Some experience working with childrenMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional SupportProvide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports to track, monitor and communicate students progress and academic performance with parents and other school or district staff.Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.Guide students independent study, enrichment work, remedial help, and follow-up work as specified by the teacher.Maintains confidentiality of information as required by school policy.Maintain a high level of ethical and professional standards as expected of all personnel.Student ManagementMake teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.OtherParticipate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned as it relates to the purpose and intent of the federally funded programPerform other duties as assigned as it relates to the purpose and intent of the federally funded program.Supervisory Responsibilities:None.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipmentPosture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stoopingMotion: Moderate walkingLifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise
