Building Maintenance Service Technician

Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $25.89 to $27.39 and may be commensurate with experience.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is looking for a Service Technician to provide support within our Facilities Management department.
Position Description: The Service Technician is responsible for maintaining the physical condition, safety, and operational integrity of SOME facilities. This role performs routine and preventative maintenance, responds to work orders, and completes repairs across multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry. The Service Technician ensures facilities remain safe, functional, and aligned with organizational standards.
Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 10:30 am - 7:00 pm (40 hours per week)
Required: HS Degree/GED; 1-3 years of Facilities Management experience in multi-housing or residential facilities
Preferred: High School degree/GED; 3-5 years of Facilities Management experience in multi-site housing or residential facilities; previous experience in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or carpentry; previous supervisor experience.
Required License/Certification: Must possess and maintain a vehicle and a valid driver's license, as well as personal car liability insurance coverage. This is a contingency of employment. The vehicle should be safe and reliable. (Mileage will be reimbursed), Basic Life Support [CPR & AED] Provider.
Skills & Abilities:
Understanding of electrical issues, preventative maintenance, fire systems, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance and repair
Knowledge of landscaping and painting

Ability to troubleshoot and understand plumbing issues, preventative maintenance, and general maintenance & repair
Expected Contributions: Facilities Operations
Perform routine preventative maintenance and basic repairs to building systems and equipment
Ensure that building systems are being operated safely, efficiently, and as intended.
Completes and documents all service and maintenance requests promptly per policy/standard
Ensure vacant units are prepared for move-in
Purchase and maintain inventory for cost-effective operations
Answer mobile phone in off-hours and respond to 24-hour emergency calls as part of the on-call rotation list
Complete service requests promptly
Ensure that all safety standards are maintained
Coordinate and monitor contractor work at assigned buildings
Communicate work status updates to Facilities Management and Property Management
Complete landscaping and grounds work, as needed
Environmental Working Conditions: The employee works indoors and outdoors in accessing and performing maintenance and repair functions involving buildings, facilities, and equipment. The employee drives to and from different locations and is exposed to outside weather conditions, traffic, hot and cold surfaces and work areas, moisture, wetness, dust, oils, greases, fumes, and mechanical and electrical hazards. The employee works with various cleaning agents. The noise level is loud when the employee is operating power tools and equipment.
Reports to: Chief Building Engineer
Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with their hands and arms. Employees are required to frequently stand and walk in work areas and occasionally sit while completing records and reports, and talk and hear. Employees are expected to stoop, squat, crawl, and work within confined physical spaces. Employees may climb stairs, ladders, or small stools, and lift and carry parts, supplies, and equipment, typically weighing less than 40 pounds.
