Senior UX Researcher & Designer
ONLY LOCAL CANDIDATES IN NEW YORK WILL BE ACCOMMODATEDKey responsibilitiesPlan and execute end-to-end user research for high-priority public services to define problems and identify evidence-based opportunities.Collaborate with product managers, digital strategists, analytics, engineers and other researchers to develop research plans, hypotheses, and user requirements.Synthesize qualitative findings with behavioral/analytics data to provide a holistic view of user experience and inform product decisions.Produce clear, well-documented research deliverables (reports, personas, journey maps, recommendations) that drive stakeholder decision-making.Audit and advance the team's research toolkit; introduce new methodologies to broaden insight capture and strengthen a data-driven culture.Create wireframes and user journey maps from research insights and product requirements.Mandatory qualifications (candidates without these will not be considered)Minimum 10 years of professional experience in UX research and design.Proven expertise leading both generative research (field studies, interviews) and evaluative research (usability testing, A/B testing), and converting insights into wireframes and journeys.Demonstrated ability to translate research hypotheses into actionable, mixed-method research plans with statistically sound analysis.Experience recruiting participants that match required demographic and behavioral profiles.Deep familiarity with methodologies that avoid over-generalization, sample underrepresentation, and correlation/causation errors.Track record of promoting creative, evidence-informed design solutions and cultivating user-centered practices among cross-departmental stakeholders.Desired qualificationsCertification in evaluation practice (for example, The Evaluators' Institute) or equivalent graduate-level education in qualitative evaluation/research methodology.10+ years experience interpreting complex patterns across combined qualitative and quantitative datasets.Strong understanding of statistical principles for evaluating data.Experience working within cross-disciplinary product teams (product, engineering, data) to deliver user-centered services on schedule.Experience facilitating group synthesis and collaborative sense-making workshops.Demonstrated commitment to diverse representation and accessibility in research methods and prior projects.
