Salesforce Marketing Cloud Technical Architect
Role SummaryThe SFMC Technical Architect is the hands-on technical leader for all marketing automation solutions on the platform. You'll own end-to-end execution, translating business requirements into scalable designs, leading development, and driving integrations across enterprise systems. You're equally comfortable whiteboarding architecture and writing AMPscript, and you operate as the primary technical authority alongside the SFMC Manager (governance) and QA Specialist (release validation).Key ResponsibilitiesSolution Design & ArchitectureTranslate marketing requirements into scalable SFMC solutions: journeys, automations, and multi-channel campaigns Design data models, segmentation strategies, and personalization frameworks Document architecture decisions and implementation patterns aligned with enterprise standards Partner with enterprise architects to align SFMC with PenFed's Salesforce reference architecture Hands-On DevelopmentLead development across Journey Builder, Automation Studio, AMPscript, SQL, dynamic content, landing pages, and content assets Build proof-of-concepts and prototypes for new capabilities Conduct code reviews and enforce development best practices Mentor developers, Email Specialists, and QA team members Integration & DataDesign SFMC data models for segmentation, personalization, and campaign execution Define integration approaches across Salesforce Core (FSC), Data Cloud, Loyalty Cloud, Snowflake, and other systems Ensure proper tracking implementation — links, parameters, and data capture — for campaign measurement Testing & DeploymentPerform unit and integration testing before QA handoff Support defect resolution pre- and post-production Lead deployment execution and triage; drive root cause analysis on issues Stakeholder CollaborationGather requirements directly from business and marketing stakeholders; provide technical recommendations Align with the SFMC Technical Project Manager on timelines and priorities Maintain documentation for solutions, architecture decisions, and implementation standards QualificationsRequired7+ years in marketing technology with 5+ years hands-on SFMC Deep SFMC expertise: AMPscript, SQL, HTML/CSS, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Email Studio, standard and custom reporting, Marketing Cloud Intelligence Strong cross-platform integration experience across Salesforce and enterprise systems Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, Marketing Technology, or equivalent experience PreferredSalesforce Data Cloud, Financial Services Cloud, or Marketing Cloud Next experience Familiarity with Snowflake or enterprise data warehouses Einstein AI / personalization implementation experience Agile delivery (Jira, Confluence) Financial services or regulated industry background
