Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.Duties and Responsibilities:The following functions represent the majority of time spent in this position. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary:Clean, sanitize, and disinfect animal kennels, cages, runs, food/water bowls, and related equipment on a daily basisRemove animal waste and dispose of it in accordance with established proceduresSweep, mop, hose down, and maintain floors in animal housing and common areasLaunder and replace animal bedding, towels, and blanketsMaintain cleanliness of public areas, offices, hallways, and restrooms within the shelterUse cleaning agents and disinfectants safely and in accordance with protocols to prevent disease transmissionMonitor animals during cleaning for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and report concerns to supervisory staffSafely handle animals as needed to complete cleaning tasks, using proper restraint techniques when requiredRestock cleaning and sanitation supplies and notify management when inventory is lowFollow all safety procedures to minimize risk to self, coworkers, and animalsAssist with general shelter operations as needed, including basic animal care supportMinimum Education and Experience Requirements:Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by six (6) months of experience in animal control, law enforcement, custodial work, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.Physical Demands:Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis. Duties require manual dexterity and coordination for repetitive tasks involving hands, arms, and legs, including operating cleaning tools and equipment with moderate precision.Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):Work involves routine and frequent exposure to:Bright or dim lighting conditionsDust, pollen, and airborne particlesExtreme heat, cold, wet, or humid conditionsLoud noise levels from animals and equipmentAnimals that may be unpredictable, aggressive, or frightenedFumes, odors, and cleaning chemicalsMoving machinery and equipmentRisk of exposure to zoonotic diseases and pathogensOccasional exposure to other hazards such as vibrations, traffic areas, and potentially volatile situationsSpecial Certifications and Licenses:* Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.* Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance:Bell County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
