Secondary Science and Social Studies Coordinator

JOB TITLE: Secondary Sci/SS Coordinator WORK DAYS: 208 REPORTS TO: Chief of Learning DATE REVISED:03/11/2026 DEPT/SCHOOL: Curriculum Department Secondary Science and Social Studies Coordinator Primary Purpose Provide strategic leadership and instructional support for secondary (grades 6-12) Science and Social Studies programs to ensure high levels of student achievement, curriculum alignment, instructional rigor, and compliance with state accountability standards. Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of curriculum, assessment, and professional learning systems that drive measurable gains in student performance. Reports To Chief of Learning Major Responsibilities and Duties Curriculum & Instructional Leadership Lead the development, revision, and alignment of Science and Social Studies curriculum to state standards. Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across middle and high school programs. Monitor instructional rigor and alignment through campus visits, lesson audits, and data reviews. Support implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM). Develop model units, pacing guides, and assessment frameworks. Ensure integration of literacy, academic vocabulary, and writing across content areas. Assessment & Data Analysis Analyze district, campus, and classroom-level assessment data to identify trends and gaps. Collaborate with campus leaders to develop targeted intervention plans. Design and support common formative assessments. Monitor performance of student subgroups and special populations. Support campuses in meeting state accountability targets. Professional Learning & Coaching Design and facilitate professional development for teachers and instructional leaders. Provide coaching and support to campus instructional coaches and department chairs. Develop leadership capacity in content-area teachers. Ensure professional learning is job-embedded, data-driven, and aligned to district priorities. Program Development & Innovation Support STEM, Advanced Academics, CTE, and Dual Credit related to Science and Social Studies. Monitor lab safety compliance and science resource management. Ensure Social Studies curriculum reflects civic readiness and historical literacy standards. Lead textbook adoption and instructional materials review processes. Evaluate and recommend digital tools and instructional resources. Collaboration & Communication Partner with campus principals to support instructional improvement. Serve as liaison between district leadership and secondary campuses. Communicate updates on curriculum, assessments, and instructional expectations. Support grant development and implementation when applicable. Supervisory Responsibilities None Qualifications Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree (required) Valid teaching certificate in Science or Social Studies (required) Master's Degree (preferred) Experience Minimum of 5 years successful secondary classroom teaching experience Demonstrated instructional leadership experience (department chair, instructional coach, AP, etc.) Experience with curriculum development and assessment design Experience analyzing student achievement data Knowledge of state accountability systems Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Deep content knowledge in secondary Science and/or Social Studies Strong understanding of secondary instructional best practices Ability to lead adult learning and facilitate professional development Data analysis and strategic planning skills Strong organizational and project management skills Ability to influence without direct authority Excellent written and verbal communication skills Work Environment Frequent campus visits Occasional evening or weekend professional development sessions Moderate travel within district
