The division ensures that all programs, partnerships, and operations meet required standards to protect children, volunteers, and the organization.Role OverviewWe are seeking a Compliance & Safeguarding Coordinator to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of safeguarding and compliance systems across MAP programs.This role ensures that all work involving youth is conducted safely, ethically, and in alignment with legal and organizational standards.This is a risk-critical role that protectsChildren and youthVolunteers and staffSchool and institutional partnershipsThe organization as a wholeKey ResponsibilitiesSafeguarding Systems & ProtocolsSupport development and implementation of child safeguarding policies and proceduresEnsure clear reporting pathways for incidents, concerns, and escalationsPromote safe practices across all youth-facing programsCompliance OversightSupport adherence to NYC DOE requirements, background check processes (SCR, fingerprinting), and volunteer clearance systemsEnsure alignment with internal policies and external regulatory requirementsMaintain documentation for compliance and audit readinessRisk Identification & ManagementIdentify potential safeguarding and compliance risks across programs and partnershipsSupport mitigation strategies and corrective actionsEscalate issues appropriately and in a timely mannerTraining & AwarenessSupport training for staff and volunteers on safeguarding, boundaries, and compliance expectationsPromote a culture of accountability, safety, and ethical responsibilityReinforce best practices for working with youthIncident Reporting & DocumentationMaintain organized, confidential records of incidents and compliance processesSupport proper documentation, tracking, and follow-upEnsure confidentiality and professionalism in all mattersCross-Team CollaborationWork closely with Program, HR, and Partnerships teams to ensure safeguarding is integrated into all operationsCollaborate with Privacy and Data teams on student data protection alignmentMaintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google WorkspaceQualificationsRequiredStrong understanding of safeguarding, compliance, or risk management principlesHigh level of discretion, professionalism, and ethical judgmentStrong organizational and documentation skillsAbility to handle sensitive situations with care and clarityAlignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered valuesPreferredExperience working with youth, schools, or vulnerable populationsFamiliarity with NYC DOE requirements, background checks, and safeguarding standardsExperience in compliance, legal, HR, or nonprofit environmentsKnowledge of trauma-informed practicesCommitmentVolunteer roleApproximately 5–10 hours per weekMinimum 6-month commitment preferredFully remote with optional NYC-based collaborationWhat You’ll GainExperience in compliance, safeguarding, and risk management systemsExposure to real-world nonprofit governance and regulatory practicesCollaboration with leadership across legal, program, and partnerships teamsProfessional references and letters of recommendationA critical role protecting children and strengthening organizational integrityHow To ApplyInterested candidates must apply directly through Idealist and submitResume (required)Cover letter (required) describing relevant experience in safeguarding, compliance, or risk management and interest in MAP’s missionThis Role Protects What Matters Most.Help ensure that every program is not only impactful—but safe, ethical, and worthy of the trust placed in us.Thank you for your interest in volunteering with our organization.
