This position will setup and operate a glass working operation to make glass cells for use in laser applications. The primary material will be borosilicate glass and quartz along with some more exotic glass window materials. Highly desirable is the ability to make glass to metal seals, create T intersections, flanges, and be able to attach laser grade windows without distortion of the surface flatness in the CA of the window. They will also operate and maintain a vacuum system capable of filling reference cells with a variety of gasses and metals. In addition, the successful candidate will become a key contributor to MBU by spending 20% of their time in an engineering or operations capacity. Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: General Glass Blowing Skills and Knowledge of Glass Create Glass Cells with T intersections, flanges, and optical windows Create Glass to Metal Seals is a Plus Operation of a Glass Lathe Create reference cells with gasses and metals Partner with Design Engineers to Ensure Manufacturability of the Cell In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for: Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
