Lead Platform Engineer – Hybrid Data Infrastructure (New York, USA)A global investment firm is looking to add a Lead Platform Engineer to its New York team, focused on evolving its data infrastructure into a more automated, scalable, and platform-driven environment.The role centers on developing a Kubernetes-backed database platform, giving internal teams the ability to provision and manage data services through declarative, code-based workflows. The aim is to improve reliability, reduce operational overhead, and create a consistent experience across a diverse set of database technologies.You’ll be working hands-on across databases, Kubernetes, and hybrid infrastructure (on-prem/baremetal & cloud) systems, with real ownership in shaping how data infrastructure is built and consumed across the organisation.What You’ll Be Doing:Design and run database services within Kubernetes, with a focus on resilience and automation.Build internal tooling to handle provisioning, upgrades, and schema management.Support a mix of database systems serving both operational and analytical workloads.Enhance observability, monitoring, and self-service capabilities for internal users.Play a key role in modernising existing environments and migrating legacy systems.What You’ll Bring:Experience working across different types of databases.Practical knowledge of Kubernetes, particularly with stateful applications.Strong programming skills (Python or Go).Experience with infrastructure-as-code and modern delivery pipelines.Understanding of monitoring and operating distributed systems.Nice to Have:Experience running database workloads in Kubernetes at scale.Familiarity with operator patterns or database automation frameworks.Exposure to modern data platforms such as lakehouse architectures or distributed query engines.
