Learns toperform field work and technical duties related to smart meterequipment, meter reading systems, customer data verification, andassists the Utility Billing Office with meter data verification,customer inquiries, and usage analysis. This is a training-levelposition intended to prepare the incumbent for advancement to theMaintenance II (Utility Systems Technician) classification upondemonstrated proficiency and experience.Essential Duties And Responsibilities Assists with the installation, testing, and maintenance of automatedmeter reading (AMR/AMI) equipment and related communication hardwareand components. Performs basic meter reads, inspections, and troubleshooting underdirection of a senior technician. Learns to identify and report equipment malfunctions, leaks, orconnectivity issues within the smart meter system. Supports Utility Billing staff by assisting in data collection andverifying meter read accuracy. Provides courteous assistance to customers regarding meter accessand service appointments. Maintains accurate work logs and documentation of field activities.Qualifications Willingness and ability to learn smart meter technology,communication systems, and basic diagnostic tools. Ability to operate handheld meter-reading devices and followsoftware-assisted instructions. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and communicateeffectively with the public. Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required. Prior experience in general maintenance, utilities, informationTechnology, Or Construction Work Preferred But Not Required.Physical Requirements Moderate to occasional heavy physical effort required. Must be ableto sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs.Working Conditions Work performed indoors and outdoors under varying weatherconditions. Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards requires adherence toestablished safety procedures. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for systemmaintenance or emergencies.
