Lead GED Instructor

The Opportunity: The GED Lead Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned GED instruction to adult learners and Opportunity Youth. This role focuses exclusively on academic instruction, student progress, and credential attainment.The ideal candidate is an experienced adult educator and program builder who understands how to build confidence, close academic gaps, and create structured pathways toward GED completion. This role requires strong classroom leadership, data-informed instruction, and a commitment to student persistence and success.Core Responsibilities:GED Instruction: Deliver instruction using a structured, adult-learner-centered model:I DO (direct instruction and modeling)WE DO (guided practice and collaborative learning)YOU DO (independent practice and skill mastery)Additional responsibilities include:Provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction in GED subject areas (Math, RLA, Science, Social Studies)Differentiate instruction for varied learning levels, including students with learning gaps, interrupted education histories, or low academic confidenceCreate structured lesson plans aligned to GED assessment standards and readiness benchmarksMaintain a supportive, high-expectation classroom environmentIntegrate test-taking strategies and confidence-building techniques into daily instructionStudent Progress Monitoring & SupportAdminister and interpret baseline and progress assessmentsTrack measurable skill gains and testing readiness benchmarksDevelop individualized learning plans for students requiring targeted academic supportCollaborate with success coaches and intake staff to address attendance barriers and persistence challengesSupport students in scheduling and preparing for official GED examsMaintain consistent communication with students regarding goals and progressGED Boot Camps & Accelerations:Plan and lead GED Boot Camps and focused acceleration sessions for students nearing test readinessDevelop short-term (2–4 week) structured academic improvement plansTrack student milestones and celebrate academic achievementsSupport a culture of urgency and accountability around GED completionDocumentation & ComplianceMaintain accurate and timely documentation in Salesforce, LMS platforms, and testing systemsEnsure student attendance, instructional hours, assessment results, and test outcomes are properly recordedParticipate in data reviews and contribute to continuous improvement effortsSupport compliance with funding and reporting requirements as neededRequired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Education, Adult Learning, Social Work or related field2+ years of experience teaching adult learners or secondary studentsStrong knowledge of GED subject standards and test preparation strategiesExperience differentiating instruction for diverse academic levelsAbility to use assessment data to drive instructional planning and student interventionsStrong classroom management and student engagement skillsProficiency with education technology platforms (LMS, Google/Microsoft tools); Salesforce experience preferredPreferred Qualifications:Experience working with Opportunity Youth or nontraditional adult learnersExperience serving students with barriers to education or interrupted academic historiesFamiliarity with Essential Education, TABE, or other GED-aligned toolsExperience leading accelerated learning or GED boot campsUnderstanding of trauma-informed instructional practicesCompetencies for Success:Strong classroom presence and ability to motivate adult learnersInstructional excellence with a focus on measurable skill gainsHighly organized with strong follow-throughData-driven mindsetAbility to build trust while maintaining high expectationsComfortable operating in a fast-paced, mission-driven environmentWork Environment & Schedule:In-person role with primary morning GED instructionsOccasional evenings/weekends may be required for boot camps, testing support, or special eventsAbout Skilled US:Skilled US is a student-first workforce and adult education organization that helps adults and young people earn credentials, build confidence, and move into family-sustaining careers.
