Job DescriptionThe Medical Assistant Relations Associate is responsible for effectively and efficiently providing patient procedures as ordered by the physician under the guidance of licensed medical staff (LPN, RN, NP or MD). In addition, provides clerical support necessary for efficient and effective functioning of the office.ResponsibilitiesPerforms EKGs as ordered by the physicianPerforms lab testing as ordered by the physicianPerforms PFT as ordered by the physicianAdmits patient to the exam room and takes vital signs, medical history, medication history and allergy history. Height and weight as indicatedPerforms quality controlsEnsures that the patient referrals are completed and forwarded appropriatelyDocuments appropriately any treatmentDocuments any telephone contact with the patientDocuments in the lab accession log and outside medical testing log as per established procedureAdheres to universal precautions and OSHA RegulationsMaintains examination rooms and medical areas in a clean and orderly fashionRegisters and transacts patients promptly and accurately using current computer systemUpdates pertinent patient information, including medical insurance coverage and eligibilityEnsures that all patients names appear on daily ledger sheetsSchedules patient appointmentsRetrieves and files medical reports/lab resultsProcesses HMO referrals as requested by Physician, Practice Management, and patientsCommunicates to Physician all patient emergenciesAnswers telephones with name and Beth Israel Medical Group office locationTakes messages to ensure follow-up on all callsScans paperwork into the EMR in a timely fashionBalances ledger sheets and accounts for all monies receivedHas accountability for all aspects of the cash box and the contents within. Notifies Office Administrator or Reimbursement/Front Office Coordinator when change is neededProvides information to other departments as requestedProvides assistance with uncovered shiftsConfirms appointmentsNotifies Practice Manager or Office Manager of any problems in the officeNotifies Practice Manager or Office Manager when office supplies are neededCalls insurance companies to verify coverage and eligibilityForwards to specialty offices all information pertinent to scheduled appointments; i.e., labs, referrals, ex-rays, etc.QualificationsMedical Assistant/Relations AssociateBLS certification or Heart Saver from AHALicensed/Credentialed as a Phlebotomist or EKG technician preferredCertification as a Medical Assistant or two (2) years relevant work experience preferred.CMA/RMA - National Certification RequiredCollective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSBIMGCompensation StatementThe Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $28.88 - $29.38 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
