Senior Java Developer (Merchant Acquiring) – US RemoteAbout the RoleWe are seeking a Senior Java Developer with strong experience in merchant acquiring and payment processing to join our engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who has built scalable backend systems for payment platforms, acquiring processors, or financial institutions and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.The ideal candidate will have a background similar to senior engineers who have successfully delivered enterprise-grade payment solutions using modern Java technologies, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.Location: United States (Remote)ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based backend applications.Build and enhance APIs and microservices supporting merchant acquiring and payment processing.Develop secure, high-performance solutions for payment authorization, settlement, reconciliation, and transaction processing.Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA, and cross-functional engineering teams.Participate in system architecture discussions and technical design reviews.Optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability.Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.Support CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical excellence across the team.Required Qualifications8+ years of professional Java development experience.Strong expertise with Java 11+ (Java 17/21 preferred).Extensive experience with:Spring BootREST APIsMicroservicesJPA/HibernateHands-on experience with merchant acquiring, payment gateways, payment processing, or financial services.Experience with transaction lifecycle concepts including:AuthorizationCaptureSettlementReconciliationExperience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.Strong understanding of secure application development and API design.Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.Excellent communication skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.Familiarity with Kafka or other messaging platforms.Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, or GitHub Actions.Experience with OAuth2, OpenID Connect, or modern authentication mechanisms.Previous experience working with enterprise payment platforms or fintech organizations.Required SkillsJavaSpring BootREST APIsMicroservicesJPA/HibernateSQL (PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar)GitDockerAWSCI/CDAgile/ScrumNice to HaveExperience with card networks (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover).PCI-DSS knowledge.Experience with event-driven architecture.Experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ.Experience in high-volume transactional systems.Location RequirementsMust be currently based in the United States.Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
