Communications Systems Designer

Job Description/Responsibilities: The JW Group, Inc. is seeking a communications systems designer to provide design services for communications infrastructure and low-voltage systems supporting various projects. The candidate will be required to develop conceptual, schematic, and construction design documents using both Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software. Candidate will be part of a design team developing design documents for various facility types including passenger terminals and concourses, cargo facilities, multi-story parking structures, campus outside plant and perimeter, and seaport terminals. Candidate will have a minimum of 3-years of professional working experience in the development engineering design documents and be familiar with industry standards relating to communications infrastructure design. Drawings to be prepared as part of this position will include site plans, floor plans, riser and logic diagrams, interconnection details, communications room layouts, and equipment mounting details. Candidate should also be familiar with developing construction specification sections for technology infrastructure and systems. Responsible tasks will include travelling to project sites, conducting site surveys, participating in project planning and coordination meetings, preparing project related documents and written reports, developing design and construction documentation, participating in data collection, conducting assessments and preparing presentations. Candidate should be proficient in the development of communications infrastructure and electrical design documents, be familiar with the use of design drawing tools such as Revit and AutoCAD, and be well versed in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In addition, the applicant should: Have experience designing structured cabling systems and local area networks in campus type environments. BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) is preferred. Experience in low-medium voltage power distribution design is a plus. Proficiency in using AutoCAD and Revit for telecommunications design, including the creation and management of Revit families and templates, working with other trades on a Revit model. Have experience developing specifications and drawings associated with construction projects. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with team members at all levels. Possess the ability to communicate effectively with technical developers and be able to express technical requirements to non-technical business partners and/or clients. Possess the ability to work independently and support several projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively. Possess enthusiasm to learn new technologies. Be proficient in Microsoft Office (2010 and later) products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.). The position requires significant travel domestically to JWG client locations. Experience Requirements: The applicant should have 3-5 years of Communications Infrastructure design experience and/or equivalent education/certifications. Experience in the Aviation or Transportation industry and/or knowledge of the following systems will be considered a plus: Structured Cabling Systems Low-Medium Electrical Distribution Local Area Networks Technical Writing Wireless Systems Telephony Systems Audio Paging (Public Address) Radio Systems Dynamic Signage Aviation specific Special Systems Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering OR Bachelor’s Degree in another related field OR equivalent career experience.
