Product Design Engineer

Who We Areillumicell AI is a Harvard-Pagliuca Lab based Techmed startup building AI-powered, label-free cell analysis to bring fast, objective diagnostics to the point of care. Starting with male fertility, we’re developing a new standard for how living cells are measured, understood, and acted upon, bridging hardware, software, and machine learning to unlock scalable, real-world clinical impact.What You’ll DoDesign & DevelopmentLead mechanical design of the illumicell AI imaging system from prototype through production.Own device mechanical design and prototyping, including CAD models, drawings, and work instructions/protocols.Design for manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), and reliability.Support consumable selection, development, and manufacturing.Contribute to system integration and testing.Contribute to design control, risk management, and regulatory documentation.Device Manufacturing, Testing, & VerificationSupport hardware manufacturing efforts, including working with outside suppliers and guiding internal builds.Plan and execute component and system level testing to verify device performance.Analyze results, identify issues, and drive design improvements.Collaboration & OversightCollaborate with electrical, software, optics, clinical, and regulatory teamsContribute to design controls, risk management, and technical documentation (ISO 13485 environment)What We’re Looking ForBackground & ExperienceProven track record delivering complex hardware systems.Hands-on experience with mechanical design (CAD, prototyping) and and cross-functional system integration (mechanical, electrical, and software).Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing processes for low- to mid-volume production.Technical ExpertiseProficiency in CAD (OnShape, SolidWorks) and revision control practices.Strong understanding of tolerancing, materials, and manufacturing methods.Experience with system-level testing and performance validationProfileStrategic, hands-on, detail-oriented.
