Millwork Engineering Manager

Our client is an established custom manufacturing organization that designs and delivers complex architectural millwork and commercial interior solutions across a variety of commercial markets. As the business continues to grow, they are investing in strong operational leadership to improve engineering processes, develop talent, and build scalable systems that support continued expansion. The Role This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for managing the Engineering and Drafting team while overseeing engineering operations from approved submittals through fabrication-ready production drawings. The Engineering Manager will establish engineering standards, improve departmental processes, mentor engineers and drafters, and ensure production drawings are accurate, consistent, and aligned with manufacturing requirements. This individual will work closely with Project Management, Production, Purchasing, and Field Operations to improve constructability, drive accountability, and support operational excellence. This role is ideal for a technical leader who enjoys building high-performing teams while remaining engaged in the day-to-day engineering process. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop the Engineering and Drafting team Establish department priorities, performance expectations, and accountability Balance engineering workloads and allocate resources across multiple projects Foster a culture centered on quality, ownership, urgency, and continuous improvement Engineering Operations Oversee engineering activities from approved submittals through release to production Ensure production drawings are complete, accurate, and fabrication-ready Drive consistency in drafting standards, detailing methods, and engineering practices Simplify complex projects into practical, buildable solutions that support efficient manufacturing Process Improvement Develop and maintain engineering standards, SOPs, quality procedures, and workflow documentation Establish quality control measures and review processes throughout the engineering department Monitor workloads, priorities, and project bottlenecks while proactively identifying and resolving issues Improve engineering efficiency, throughput, and overall departmental performance Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Project Management to ensure engineering requirements are clearly defined before project kickoff Collaborate with Production, Purchasing, and Field Operations to improve constructability and fabrication efficiency Support material takeoffs, bill of material development, procurement planning, and continuous improvement initiatives Technical Leadership Serve as the department's technical expert for engineering methods, fabrication processes, and constructability Review complex projects and provide technical guidance to engineering staff Lead engineering standardization initiatives and establish best practices across the organization Serve as the final technical escalation point for engineering-related challenges Experience & Profile 7+ years of experience in architectural millwork, casework, woodworking, manufacturing, construction, or a related industry Previous experience leading engineering, drafting, or technical teams Strong understanding of shop drawings, construction documents, fabrication methods, and project execution Experience developing engineering standards, workflows, and departmental processes Architectural millwork or commercial interiors experience strongly preferred Experience supporting custom manufacturing environments Proficiency with AutoCAD required Experience with Cabinet Vision, AlphaCAM, ERP/MRP systems (Innergy preferred), or similar manufacturing software is highly desirable Proven ability to coach teams, build accountability, and improve engineering performance Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical execution in a fast-paced environment Work Environment Hybrid opportunity with flexibility for qualified candidates (PA / Remote) Collaborative, fast-paced manufacturing environment with cross-functional interaction across Engineering, Project Management, Production, Purchasing, and Field Operations Occasional travel (approximately once per month for remote employees) Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year Benefits: 401(k) Health insurance Paid time off Relocation assistance Work Location: Remote
