Summer Day Camp Counselor
The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Summer Day Camp Counselor to join our team!
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
As a Summer Day Camp Counselor, you will get to know a small group of campers and supervise them through a range of fun activities such as swimming, playing games, participating in sports, and learning arts and crafts all while keeping them engaged and safe.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, lead, and assist group activities, transitions, time fillers, and songs.
Complete group head counts.
Provide parent communication through parent communication cards.
Complete accident and incident reports when necessary.
Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be required of all staff.
Qualifications:
Six months or more of related experience (preferred).
Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations
Knowledge and skills in day camp program activities and related equipment set-up, and the ability to instruct participants in age-appropriate techniques.
Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day, and other online and in-person training as required
Wage: $16.28 to $18.28 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Hours: Full-Time, Seasonal Camp
Location: Gordon Family YMCA, Sumner, WA

Program Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Camp Director, Program Staff will assist in planning, organizing and running of various program areas in a safe and customer friendly manner for summer camp programs. Provides a quality experience to campers & families focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Operation:
Ensure that program areas are ready for group use prior to group arrival when possible.
Know and enforce rules as necessary to ensure safe use of the program areas.
Be familiar with emergency procedures.
Maintain good public relations with participants and fellow staff, representing the best interests of the YMCA.
Provide excellent customer service at every opportunity.
If qualified, administer basic first aid as required; if not, direct participant to Director. Contribute to thecompletion of accident or incident reports as necessary.
Program Staff:
Assist at program areas (arts and crafts, archery, climbing wall, etc.) as trained.
Assist with administrative tasks in regards to Day Camp, Value Awards, story collection, data entry, andmore.
Operate the camp store.
Financial Development and Philanthropy:
Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y storyand raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger,handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheralvision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Must participate in programming outdoors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum age of 18.
6 months experience working in a residential camp or conference facility is preferred.
Knowledge of YMCA Camp Seymour's operation procedures, especially the supervision and operation of programareas or the ability to acquire that knowledge.
Current first aid and CPR certifications from nationally recognized organizations preferred.
The ability to effectively communicate with staff & participants of all ages.
Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training asrequired.
