Position Description: Secondary Mathematics TeacherPosition Type: Full-TimeReports To: Campus PrincipalPosition SummaryThe secondary mathematics teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction that develops students' mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and conceptual understanding while supporting student well-being and a positive campus culture. The teacher fosters a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, perseverance, and confidence in mathematics. The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, and committed to continuous improvement while maintaining high expectations for all learners.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe secondary mathematics teacher plans and delivers engaging, standards-aligned instruction based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in accordance with Texas Education Code §28.002. Instruction emphasizes mathematical reasoning, conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world problem solving appropriate to the assigned grade level or course.Lessons are data-informed and designed to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of students. The teacher provides rigorous Tier 1 instruction using research-based practices, explicit modeling, guided practice, structured problem-solving, and differentiated instructional strategies to support learning for all students.The teacher establishes a structured and supportive classroom environment that promotes productive struggle, mathematical discourse, and student engagement. Ongoing assessment practices, including formative and summative assessments, are used to monitor student progress, adjust instruction, and provide timely feedback to students and families.The teacher participates in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including intervention planning and progress monitoring for students who require additional academic support. Collaboration with department teams, instructional coaches, intervention staff, and campus leadership supports alignment with campus and district goals and strengthens instructional practices.Clear and professional communication with parents and guardians is expected to support student success and reinforce strong home-school partnerships. The teacher fulfills all professional responsibilities, including lesson planning, supervision duties, documentation, and participation in professional learning aligned with campus priorities. Performance expectations align with the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) domains.The teacher maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment consistent with district policies, the Student Code of Conduct, and state safety requirements.QualificationsApplicants must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Texas teaching certificate in Mathematics (Grades 7-12) or applicable certification in accordance with Texas Education Code Chapter 21.Candidates should demonstrate:Strong knowledge of secondary mathematics curriculum and instructional practicesAbility to teach mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and conceptual understandingEffective classroom management and student engagement strategiesSkill in using formative and summative assessment data to guide instructionStrong communication skills, professionalism, and collaborationNew teachers and experienced educators are encouraged to apply.Preferred AttributesSuccessful candidates are reflective practitioners who value teamwork, consistency, and positive relationships with students and colleagues.
