Building Inspector
MHE Engineering, DPC. is a multi-disciplined consulting engineering firm located in Southern New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania. The primary areas of practice include civil/municipal engineering, structural engineering, architecture, construction administration and observation. The firm was founded in 1978 and operates two offices in New Windsor, NY, and Milford, PA.
MHE is seeking an experienced Building Inspector to support our municipal clients in the Middletown/Orange County, NY area. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with New York State Building Codes and local regulations through field inspections of commercial projects.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial building construction and code enforcement, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
Conduct on-site inspections of commercial building projects to verify compliance with applicable New York State Building Codes and local ordinances.
Document existing conditions and prepare clear, concise reports for project records.
Communicate findings and code requirements to applicants/owners, design professionals, and municipal officials.
Identify code violations and provide guidance on corrective actions.
Maintain a high level of professionalism.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5+ years experience with NYS Building Code regulations.
Previous work for a municipality
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and digital reporting tools.
Strong understanding of construction practices and code enforcement procedures.
Strong report writing skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
Strong understanding of ADA requirements.
Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail in assessing compliance issues.
Valid driver’s license required for travel between inspection sites.
NYS Certified Code Enforcement Official preferred.
