Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Department: Natural Sciences, Human Performance and MathematicsPurpose: Bethel University is an inclusive Christian community dedicated to equipping individuals for a life of service through academic, spiritual, social, and experiential learning to go forth and transform the world.We are seeking a chemist to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will have graduate level coursework in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field and have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, advise and mentor students, and participate in service to the University and broader community. This position is for a faculty member who values excellent undergraduate teaching, as there is very little focus on scholarship.Essential Functions:Teach undergraduate courses in chemistry for majors and non-majors, as assigned according to divisional needs and the candidate's expertise.Develop and implement effective student-centered teaching strategies for lectures and laboratory experiences.Advise and mentor student in academic planning and professional development.Participate in curriculum development and ongoing assessment of courses and programs, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and alignment with institutional learning outcomes.Required Qualifications:Demonstrated ability or strong promise to teach effective lectures and laboratories at the undergraduate level in chemistry or a closely related field.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work effectively with college students in advising, mentoring, and classroom settings.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build constructive relationships with students, staff, faculty colleagues, and community partners.Organizational and time-management skills sufficient to balance teaching, advising, scholarship, and service responsibilities.Commitment to mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.Education:Required: Master's degree (at least 18 graduate hours) in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field.Candidates should have the ability to teach biochemistry and other upper division courses as needed.Preferred: Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field.Additional training or experience in laboratory, field-based, or interdisciplinary instruction.Candidates with experience with writing and acquiring grants.Applicants should include a cover letter highlighting your qualifications, A CV listing your teaching, scholarship, mentoring, and other service experiences, a copy of your unofficial graduate transcript, and contact information for three profession references.Bethel University is a private, Christ-centered, 4-year university located in the rural community of Mckenzie in western Tennessee.
