Commercial Insurance Product Manager (Small Commercial Lines)

Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Product Manager to lead the development and expansion of our small commercial insurance portfolio. This role is critical to accelerating growth at a well-established carrier that is investing in building a more competitive and scalable commercial insurance platform.The ideal candidate combines strong small commercial underwriting expertise with a “producer mindset”—someone who understands how to structure, package, and position products to win in the market while maintaining underwriting discipline.This role will focus on core products including General Liability (GL), Professional Liability (PL), Business Owners Policy (BOP). Familiarity with incorporating coverages into product offerings is important from a distribution perspective.Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Strategy, Design & DevelopmentLead the design, development, and enhancement of small commercial products, including:General Liability (GL)Professional Liability (PL)Businessowners Policy (BOP)Fiduciary Liability Cyber Liability Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) Directors & Officers (D&O) / Management LiabilityCommercial CrimeCommercial Surety BondsERISA Fidelity BondsDevelop bundled and packaged product solutions that combine multiple coverages (including bonds where appropriate) to create differentiated offerings for target segmentsIdentify underserved market segments and create tailored solutions to drive growthBundling & Packaging InnovationBuild scalable, repeatable coverageSupport product launches with clear appetite, positioning, and underwriting guidelinesPartner with agents, brokers, and program administrators to drive adoptionBring a producer mindset—balancing risk selection with growth, retention, and distribution successPortfolio & Performance ManagementMonitor product performance, including premium growth, loss ratios, and mix of businessIdentify trends and recommend adjustments to improve profitability and competitivenessContinuously refine product offerings based on market feedback and performance dataCross-Functional CollaborationCollaborate closely with senior leadershipAct as a bridge between technical product development and market-facing teamsEngage directly with brokers, partners, and occasionally policyholders to inform product direction as necessarySupport and advise our in-house producers in marketing bundled packages to our existing customer base.Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)5+ years of small commercial underwriting experience at a carrier or MGADirect experience in product design and development for small commercial insuranceStrong expertise in one or more of the following: PL, GL, BOP, FL, Cyber, EPLI, CC, D&O and familiarity with our other commercial insurance products Deep understanding of insurance forms, endorsements, and coverage constructionProven ability to translate underwriting insight into marketable, scalable productsExperience working in cross-functional environments to bring products to marketMust have excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Suite).Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)Experience building or contributing to bundled/package insurance solutionsFamiliarity with incorporating bonds into product offerings (from a product/distribution perspective)Demonstrated proactive and entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward executionStrong communication skills with the ability to work with agents, brokers, and policyholdersExperience in a growth-oriented or transforming organizationKey CompetenciesProducer Mindset – Thinks like a producer: understands how products sell, not just how they underwriteProduct Innovation – Ability to design compelling, differentiated bundled offeringsTechnical Expertise – Strong command of coverage, forms, and underwriting fundamentalsCommercial Acumen – Balances growth, profitability, and market competitivenessCollaboration – Works effectively across teams and functionsExecution-Oriented – Moves from concept to market quickly and efficientlyWhy This RoleThis is a unique opportunity to play a foundational role in the next phase of growth for a stable, established carrier evolving its commercial insurance platform.
